  • Are there any side effects?
Temporary redness, swelling, or mild irritation are common but usually subside within a few hours. Rare side effects include blistering or changes in skin pigmentation.
  • What areas can be treated?
Laser hair removal is effective on most body areas, including the face, legs, underarms, bikini line, arms, back, and chest.
  • How many sessions will I need?
Most people require 6 to 8 sessions for optimal results. The number of treatments depends on factors like hair type, skin tone, and the treatment area.
  • Does laser hair removal hurt?
Most patients describe the sensation as a slight stinging or snapping feeling, similar to a rubber band against the skin. Some lasers have cooling mechanisms to minimise discomfort. Oliver J Laser also invested in additional equipment to provide rapid cooling which expedites recovery.
  • how does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal uses concentrated light energy to target hair follicles, damaging them to inhibit future hair growth. The laser is attracted to the pigment in the hair, making it most effective on darker hair.
  • Is laser hair removal permanent?
Laser hair removal significantly reduces hair growth, but it may not be completely permanent. Some maintenance sessions may be required over time, especially due to hormonal changes.
  • What should I do before my appointment?
Avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least two weeks before treatment. Shave the treatment area 24 hours before your session. Avoid waxing, plucking, or using hair removal creams for at least four weeks before treatment.
  • Is laser hair removal safe for all skin types?
Yes, advancements in laser technology allow treatment for a wider range of skin tones. However, results may vary, and a consultation is recommended to determine suitability.
  • Patch Test Information
1.What is a patch test for laser hair removal? A patch test is a small test treatment performed on a small area of your skin to assess how your skin reacts to the laser. It helps determine the safest and most effective settings for your treatment. 2. Why do I need a patch test? A patch test ensures that your skin responds well to the laser and helps identify any potential adverse reactions, such as redness, swelling, or sensitivity. 3. Is a patch test required before every treatment? A patch test is usually required before your first session and may not be needed for future treatments unless there are changes in your skin, medication, or medical history. 4. How long before my treatment should I have a patch test? Most clinics require a patch test at least 24 to 48 hours before your first full treatment. 5. Does the patch test hurt? The sensation is similar to what you’ll experience during your actual laser treatment—often described as a slight snapping or tingling sensation. 6. What should I do after my patch test? Monitor the area for any redness, swelling, or irritation. If you experience significant discomfort, inform your practitioner before proceeding with full treatment. 7. Can I skip the patch test? Oliver J Laser Studio require a patch test to ensure safety and effectiveness. It’s an important step to prevent adverse reactions.

    Fineline Tattoos Explained:
  • What are your opening hours?
We are open 7 days a week! Most appointments are pre-booked with our artists. If you’re looking for a walk-in or a spur-of-the-moment tattoo, our general opening times are from 10 AM to late everyday. To avoid disappointment, please call ahead, and our studio manager, Demi, will direct you to our available artists.
  • Can I swim or tan with a new tattoo?
No, we recommend avoiding swimming or sun exposure while your tattoo is healing. Swimming can introduce bacteria into your new tattoo and sun exposure can cause the tattoo to fade and discolour. Both can cause the healing process to slow down so we recommend following your artist’s aftercare instructions on the best ways to look after your tattoo.
  • What should I wear for my tattoo?
Our lovely artists Negz & Sophie have made you a video to explain.
  • Does a tattoo hurt?
All tattoos hurt a little bit. Some areas will hurt more than others and sometimes you will barely feel it, but all tattoos are bearable, otherwise people wouldn’t be extensively tattooed. The best thing to do to minimise the pain and anxiety of getting tattoo is to stay calm and don’t tense up, breathe slowly and accept that it will hurt a little. Make sure you are wearing comfortable clothing and that you have eaten and had a good night’s sleep beforehand. Many people chose to take a pain killer such as ibuprofen an hour before the tattoo and find that this helps to take the edge off.
  • How much does a tattoo cost?
The cost of your tattoo will vary depending on the size, placement, design and artist. The best way to get an accurate price estimate for a tattoo is to have a consultation with the studio or artist and we will then be able to advise you on the price. Contact the studio manager here:
  • How old do I need to be for a tattoo?
By law you must be over 18 to get a tattoo in the UK. You must be able to produce a valid psychical form of photo ID pictures will not be accepted.
  • Can I see the design before my tattoo appointment?
Your design will be ready to view in the studio on the day of your appointment. If there are any small changes that you want to make there will be plenty of time for you to chat with the artist and they will be more than happy to amend the design.
  • Which artist should I choose?
All artists follow different styles and disciplines, you can see our artists and their style here:
  • Can you tattoo over scars?
Yes, it is possible to tattoo over scars, but it depends on certain factors such as the texture of your scar and how healed it is. We recommend booking a consultation with your tattoo artist so they can advise on the best way forward for your tattoo.
  • Can I bring a friend to my tattoo appointment?
Unfortunately, you cannot bring a friend into your tattoo appointment, there are loads of great coffee shops and restaurants nearby where someone can wait for you though. If there are circumstances where you require someone to be present, please let the studio know beforehand so that we can make arrangements to accommodate you both in the studio.
  • How long does a tattoo take?
The time your tattoo takes will vary depending on size, placement and detail. Your artist should be able to give you an idea of how long the piece will take at the time of booking. Please note that we can only give an estimate on the time a tattoo will take as each design is custom.
  • Does numbing cream work?
Numbing creams can be great for smaller tattoos. They generally don’t work for more than a couple of hours though so we would not recommend them for longer sittings. Always consult your tattoo artist before using numbing cream as not all artists like to work on skin that has been numbed. Oliver J Tattoo does not suggest, endorse or recommend the use of numbing cream. If you are using numbing cream please advise your artist before your session.
  • How should i prepare for a tattoo?
Stay Relaxed: Remember, it’s all in the mind. If you feel anxious, let your artist know, and feel free to ask any questions about the process. Get Plenty of Sleep: A good night’s rest before your appointment will help you feel more relaxed and comfortable. Stay Hydrated: We offer drinks in the studio, so don’t hesitate to ask for something to keep you hydrated. Eat: Maintaining your energy levels is crucial. Arriving hungry can lead to feeling faint during your session. Dress Comfortably: Whether your appointment is short or long, wear comfortable clothing to ensure you can relax throughout the process. Avoid Intoxication: Please do not arrive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Your session may be refused, and you could lose your deposit.
  • Can I get a tattoo whilst pregnant?
Given the limited information on the effects of a tattoo whilst pregnant we would not entertain tattooing anyone who is pregnant.
